Local attractions and sightseeing

There is plenty to do in and around Den Helder, which traditionally is the naval city of the Netherlands. It is wonderful to watch all the ships passing by and if you bring some good binoculars you might also be able to spot some of the many seals that live in the Wadden Sea.

Hotel Lands End is within walking distance of Willemsoord, the old government shipyard where a large number of museums, restaurants and other attractions are located nowadays. Via Willemsoord you can easily pass through to the center of Den Helder with all its pleasant shopping streets.

Navy museum

At a stone’s throw from hotel Lands End you will find the Navy Museum, which is located on the Oude Rijkswerf, also known as Willemsoord. The site belongs to the Royal Navy, which still uses some of the buildings. Here you can learn all about the Dutch naval history and take a look at the submarine Tonijn ("Tuna").

Visit Texel

Hotel Lands End is located right next to the ferry service between Den Helder and Texel. In about 20 minutes you can sail to the Wadden island of Texel, which you can already see from the hotel. The ideal trip to see some seals up close or visit the Texel brewery.

Fort Kijkduin

Fort Kijkduin is definitely worth a visit. Commissioned by Napoleon at the time, the museum exhibits the history of the fortress, its inhabitants and the surroundings. In addition, there is a beautiful sea aquarium inside the fortress where you can also see the restored skeleton of an 11 meter long sperm whale.

Lifeboat museum

The Lifeboat museum ("Reddingsmuseum") is located at Willemsoord, just a 5 minute walk from the Lands End hotel. It tells the story of the rescue system in the Netherlands. There is plenty to do for young and old. For example, experience how wind force 10 feels in the wind tunnel and experience the wild sea as a real lifeguard in the sailing simulator!

Old shipyard Willemsoord

Willemsoord used to be a shipyard for the Royal Navy, but has since developed itself into a wonderful monumental part of Den Helder. The restoration of Willemsoord took several years, resulting in magnificent cultural heritage. Theatre, cinema, museums... Willemsoord has it all.

Golf course Ooghduyne is located in the nearby Julianadorp aan Zee. The beautifully landscaped 9 hole (A status) golf course has an open character and is playable throughout the year thanks to the sandy soil. Work on your swing on the driving range or play a round with friends and family on the challenging par 3 family course.
